A New Filler For Jawline Enhancement

Volux XC is the newest member of the Allergan filler family which also includes JUVÉDERM Voluma ® XC, Volbella, and more. What can the patient expect and achieve with this new injectable filler now on the market in the U.S.? Let’s take a dive into why this product was needed in our market and how patients can benefit from it.

What Is Volux?

Volux is a hyaluronic acid filler designed for the lower face, specifically the jawline. Aesthetically, the jawline frames the face and a well-defined jawline can enhance facial balance. Jawline and chin filler injections can also help decrease the appearance of jowls, giving the face a more youthful appearance. As stated by Carrie Strom, President of Allergan Aesthetics, “JUVÉDERM Volux XC complements our existing product line to provide even more structure, cohesivity, and lift capacity to create an improved jawline that appears more defined in real life and on camera”. (2022, para.1) Ultimately Volux is a high impact product that we are so excited to offer our patients.

As of August 2022, Volux is FDA-approved for the jawline, meaning there were robust clinical studies completed on efficacy, safety, possible side effects and adverse events, and longevity. While this HA filler in the JUVÉDERM collection is advertised to provide long-lasting results for up to 12 months, providers and plastic surgeons report the filler still being present after 36 months. As stated by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, “The new JUVÉDERM Volux will be filling a gap in non-surgical jawline treatment options”(2022, para. 7), as there is no other hyaluronic acid filler of its kind on the market.

While Volux jawline filler is new to the U.S., this hyaluronic acid gel filler treatment has been used in other countries for over four years with great success. We have learned that recovery time for this filler is longer than other fillers due to the firmness and structure of the product, taking it longer to integrate into the tissue. You may also notice more swelling and soreness in the injection site after treating this area. What this means for our experienced filler patients is that you might be able to feel the product when washing your face for a few weeks longer than you could with previous products. We typically recommend following up at 6-8 weeks, instead of the normal 4-6 weeks.

Volux is said to be available to consumers in the spring of 2023, however, Beyond Aesthetics has been training injectors in the use of Volux as Leslie, our clinical director, has earlier access as an Allergan trainer.

So if you are asking yourself if you can benefit from a more pronounced jawline and feel your profile may be a little lackluster, book a consultation with one of our practitioners so we can get you looking your best!
