How Botox Lip Flip Works

The Botox lip flip treatment injects Botox or similar toxin into the upper lip to relax the muscles that cause the top lip to retract. This temporary muscle relaxation creates the illusion of a larger and fuller upper lip because it causes the underside of the top lip to flip outwards and be more visible when the mouth is both smiling and relaxed. Botox lip flip treatments are easy in-office procedures during which your aesthetic provider will inject several units of BOTOX into the cupid’s bow (vermillion border).

What happens during the procedure?

Your provider will start your lip flip treatment with several tiny injections of BOTOX at each corner of your mouth and in the center of the top lip. Your entire lip flip procedure should take about 15 minutes.

What’s the difference between Botox lip flip and lip filler?

The lip flip and lip filler treatments both achieve the look of fuller lips, as well as contour of the shape of the lips. However, lip flips provide a fuller top lip by relaxing the necessary muscles to expose more of your natural lip tissue that is usually hidden inside the mouth. Lip fillers can add synthetic volume to your lips with hyaluronic acid (HA) formulations.
